This course is for acupuncturist only and will cover both acupuncture and manual medicine treatments for disorders of the Tendinomuscular channels.
This is a Master Class where students will gain a deep understanding and broaden their knowledge of the tendinomuscular (sinew) channels as they apply to Oriental Medicine. Many times, eastern theories can complete a picture that western theories cannot and vice-versa. This course will teach the practitioner how to evaluate based on the Jing Jin, what emotional and postural components are associated with them, and how to treat in simplistic methods to correct problems in the muscles. Students will spend a great deal of time practicing palpation of the tendinomuscular channels as well.
as how to determine when there is pathology in the channel. How to make a change with advanced acupuncture and manual medicine techniques like pressure (shiatsu) and massage (tuina).
The course is taught in English by: Rick Sørensen Scott (see next page)
Day 1: Sinew channels of the legs
1: Students will gain a deeper understanding of the function of Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) in the body. The time clock of the sinew channel; which is different than the main meridians will be discussed.
2: Sinew channels of the leg will be discussed in detail. Students will see illustrations and learn about the major muscles effected by each channel.
3: Students will be taught Tui Na, Shiatsu and acupuncture techniques used to treat disorders of these channels.
4: Students will practice palpation of these channels and learn the difference between normal and abnormal feelings in skin, muscles and the channel in general. Palpation is a skill which needs to be made into a precision instrument for treatment. An emphasis on mindfulness and tuning into the channels and the patient will be the primary focus for this exercise.
5-6: Students will apply their techniques (manual and acupuncture) to first the yang and then the yin channels. They will discuss their findings comparing and contrasting what they felt before, during and after treatment, between yin and yang channels, between different techniques, as well as what the “patient” reports during these phases.
Day 2: Sinew channels of the arms
1: Sinew channels of the arm will be discussed in detail. Students will see illustrations and learn about the major muscles effected by each channel.
2: Mindfullness and Qi cultivation will be the focus of this hour, where practitioners will focus on how to tune into their own Qi and practice feeling and guiding their Qi, using their own Qi to affect the flow of Qi in their patients.
3: Students will begin to practice palpation of the channels of the arm. Emphasis on, cultivating mindfulness and tuning into the channels and the patient, will be the primary focus for this exercise.
4: Students will be taught Tui Na, Shiatsu and acupuncture techniques used to treat disorders of these channels. 5-6: Students will apply their techniques to first the yin and then the yang channels.
